Abstract

Abstract The N‐nitroso function is introduced as a protecting group for secondary amino acids, and its application in the synthesis of depsipeptides ‐particularly of Enniatin A ‐is described. The method proved, however, not to be generally applicable in the synthesis of N‐alkylated peptides because of partial racemisation and frequent side reactions.
