Abstract

This monograph on<i>Candida</i>and its associated diseases is an update of the first edition published in 1979. That volume brought together a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the clinical disease types as no previous monograph on the subject had done. Dr Odds' very thorough analysis of the infections, both systemic and cutaneous, was accompanied by a long analysis of treatment modalities that had been tried and the results obtained. This was extremely important, say, in trying to evaluate world experience for the therapy for chronic vaginitis or the significance of recurrent thrush. The emerging diseases of the day were also covered. These were the serious opportunistic infections that were now appearing in the immunosuppressed host. His very readable text then gave the reader a comprehensive understanding of the disease processes.
