The high- and intermediate-temperature creep properties of NiAl are quite sensitive to deviations from stoichiometry, although the creep always appears to be diffusion-controlled. The unusual dislocation micro-structures in Al-rich NiAl and the demonstrated influence of impurities in stoichiometric NiAl preclude a straightforward analysis of intrinsic rate-determining mechanisms.
