SUMMARY. Differences are shown to exist in the interpretation of the venation of the wings of Periplaneta americana presented by a number of recent authors. The venation of the wings is re‐examined along with the tracheal system of the nymphal wing‐pads. The two are compared. An interpretation of the venation of tegmen and hind‐wing is presented which is in agreement with the basic postulates of the Comstock‐Needham system of vein‐nomenclature. Snodgrass's (1935) terminology for the veins is applied.
