Abstract Photolysis of a mixture of (Ph 3 P) 2 Pd(N 3 ) 2 , Ph 3 PAuN 3 and PhsPAuCI yields [(Ph 3 PAu) 8 (AuCl) 4 Pd] after chromatographic separation. The cluster crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1̄ with a = 1675.45(8), b = 1870.57(6), c = 2673,15(9) pm, α = 82.30(3)°, β = 75.90(3)°, γ = 73.02(3)°, Z = 2. The twelve gold atoms form an icosahedron with the Pd atom in its center, and distances Pd-Au between 271.0(3) and 278.2(4) pm. The Au-Au distances range from 277.1(2) to 298.3(2) pm.
