THE CHEMISTRY OF ETHYLENE OXIDE: VI. THE ACID-CATALYZED REACTION OF ETHYLENE OXIDE WITH ETHANOL–WATER MIXTURES

Abstract

The rate of reaction of ethylene oxide with alcohol–water mixtures at 25 °C has been determined. The ratio of glycol to ethoxyethanol in the product was determined for each mixture and found to be approximately equal to the molecular ratio of water to ethanol in the solvent.
