Plasmonic switches are fabricated by embedding both Au nanorods and photochromic molecules in mesostructured silica thin films on glass slides. The switching is realized on single Au nanorods on the basis of the plasmonic–molecular resonance coupling between Au nanorods and the absorbing form of the photochromic dye.
