Abstract

Adenoviruses have been isolated from the eye,1 urine2 and feces,3 as well as from the throat and nasopharynx.4 Dissemination to multiple organs has been reported during the course of severe adenovirus type 7 pneumonia in infants5 , 6 and in naval recruits with rubelliform illness,7 the virus being isolated from acute-phase serum specimens. The present report provides evidence for a lymphocyte-associated viremia in the course of adenovirus type 2 lower-respiratory-tract disease.Case ReportA five-month-old black male infant was admitted to the hospital in September, 1975, with cough and difficulty in breathing.
