A bstract The conditions that must be satisfied in a model experiment, in order to ensure that the circulation at the liquid in the model shall be similar to that of the molten glass in a full‐sized tank, are deduced from the general theory of models, by the aid of several simplifying assumptions. A discussion of the conditions shows that it will probably, though not certainly, be impracticable to satisfy all of them; and the discussion serves as a warning against the premature acceptance of conclusions from model experiments in which the required conditions were not satisfied.
