Abstract Recently, there is a renewed interest in improving the perceived horizontal resolution of triad‐pixel displays, such as LCDs. These techniques consider the spatial displacements of the individual red, green, and blue subpixels of the single displayed color pixel. Valid luminance information is essentially carried on a chromatic aliasing signal. Using spatiochromatic visual models, we present an analysis of the visibility of the false chromatic signal, as well as the additional luminance bandwidth.
