Abstract

Mind the gap! Freestanding membranes spanning highly ordered nanocompartments can act as mechanically stable systems for modelling cellular membranes or utilised for biosensor devices. This study used DODAB lipid membrane over an etched aluminum substrate (see the graphic). STM/SFM revealed high surface coverage and probed the mechanical stability of the suspending membranes.
