Abstract The fate of pinacolyl methylphosphonofluoridate (Soman) in wheat has been studied. Using wheat grown in hydroponic culture and applying the compound Soman via the culture solution, it has been shown that Soman is rapidly hydrolysed in the plants and that the resulting pinacolyl hydrogen methylphosphonate is further degraded to methylphosphonic acid.
