Successful Seventeen-Hour Preservation and Transplantation of Human-Cadaver Kidney

Abstract

ORGAN preservation has been extensively studied for many years, but long-term storage of whole organs is still an unsolved problem. However, short-term preservation of organs such as the kidney would be a great advantage in a transplantation program in which cadaver organs are used. Because of encouraging results in our laboratory,1 we decided to attempt short-term preservation of a human-cadaver kidney.
