Gut content analysis of neritic copepods Acartia omorii and Oithona davisae by a new method

Abstract

Two nerit~c copepods, Acartia ornorii and Oithona d a v ~s a e , were collected from an area rich in diatoms Thelr gut contents, treated w t h concentrated nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide, were qualitatively dnalysed with a scannlng electron microscope coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. Results indicated A. ornorii as a diatom feeder, but 0. davlsae as a non-diatom feeder
