The characteristics of the NRM suggest that it is a thermoremanent magnetism acquired during the initial cooling of these tektites in a field comparable with the geomagnetic field. This is consistent with the Barnes-Pitakpaivan model of origin of these tektites, which is that they cooled as molten glass splash on Earth.
