Abstract

Preoperative ERCP was associated with an approximately eightfold increase in the likelihood of having culture-positive bile at the time of surgery for obstructive jaundice. Additionally, culture-positive bile at the time of surgery was associated with a greater than fivefold incidence of postoperative infection.
