This paper examines the environmental goals of rural, family owned/operated tourismbusiness with a viewto evaluating their conservationethic andcommitment to sustainabletourism. From a survey of 198 family businesses in Western Australia, it wasdetermined that about half of them had implemented a range of sustainable managementpractices. Future research needs are identified, and management ideas aresuggested which could encourage the adoption of sustainable tourism practices inrural family businesses.
