A one‐dimensional areally averaged model was used for the prediction of the annual vertical temperature profile in lake Ostrovo (Vegoritis), Greece. Eddy diffusivities were assumed to be given by the product of the eddy diffusivities in the absence of stratification and a function of a gradient Richardson number. The heat exchange between the lake and the atmosphere was formulated by the energy balance approach, and the bottom of the lake was considered to be insulated. Quantitative and qualitative agreement between computed and measured temperature profiles was very good.
