Brain oxygen pressure, brain carbon dioxide pressure, and brain pH measurements, as well as a microdialysis probe for glucose and lactate analysis, may optimize the management of comatose neurosurgical patients by allowing a fuller understanding of the dynamic factors affecting brain metabolism.
