Abstract

Prior to onset of transfusion-related acute lung injury, there is systemic inflammation and neutrophil sequestration. Transfusion-related acute lung injury is characterized by both systemic and pulmonary inflammation and activation of neutrophils, as well as enhanced coagulation and suppressed fibrinolysis.
