Abstract

Abstract Three‐dimensional (3D) displays without using any special glasses such as parallax barrier method and lenticular method are actively researched recently. However, a high resolution display is difficult to obtain by these methods because of the limitation due to the pitch of the barrier or the lens. Then, we have proposed a new method to solve this problem. In this method, the light from a back‐light is controlled in the required direction, and different images are displayed according to each direction. An observer receives 3D images by changing the light direction and parallax images on liquid crystal display (LCD) sequentially. The resolution of this display is the same as that of the LCD used and is not affected by the pitch of lenticular lens. In this presentation, the display principle, a design concept and property of the prototype 3D display property is discussed.
