A global, dynamic simulation of crossflow microfiltration in flat-channel systems is presented. The model is based on the description of the hydrodynamics in channels with rectangular cross-section and permeable walls, and on some empirical parameters. It is suitable for estimating the required membrane area or the power consumption of the filtration process. The numerical predictions are in close agreement with experimental results for the time-dependent development of filter cake height and filtrate flux.
