Abstract The reacion of l-alanine (l-ala) with Fe(NO3)2·9H2O in the presence of H5dhpta (1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid) and base (NaOH) affords the novel tetranuclear complex Na[Fe4(dhpta)2(O)(OH)(l-ala)2]·6H2O having l-alaninato bridges and an (Fe4(O2H))9+ core whose crystal structure and magnetic properties were determined.
