Differences in Pain Medication Use in Stroke Patients With Aphasia and Without Aphasia

While the findings indicate that pain medication prescriptions were similar for all patients, a significantly smaller number of individuals with aphasia received pro re nata (prn) "as required" pain medication when compared with those without aphasia, for the first 21 days and for the last 5 days of hospitalization at the JRH. Similarly, when daily dose was monitored for the same time periods, individuals with aphasia were found to have received less medication for pain than those without aphasia.
