Organic sulphur and the keratinophilia of dermatophytes preliminary report

Abstract

Cysteine inhibited the growth of the pseudoparasitic phase of the dermatophytes tested. No inhibition was caused by cystine, methionine, thioglycollate or thiosulfate. It is suggested that the absence of cysteine from keratinized epithelial structures may be related to the keratinophilia of dermatophytes. Cystein hemmte das Wachstum der getesteten Hautpilze in ihrer pseudoparasitären Phase. Cystin, Methionin, Thioglykollat und Thiosulfat übten keine solche Hemmwirkung aus. Die Abwesenheit von Cystein in voll keratinisierten epidermalen Strukturen könnte die Keratinophilie der Dermatophyten erklären.
