Characteristics of thin-film ZnSe/(Zn,Cd)Se/ZnSe heterostructure waveguides in the visible and near infrared

Waveguide characteristics of molecular-beam epitaxially grown ZnSe/(ZnCd)Se/ZnSe heterostructures have been investigated at selected wavelengths from 0.532 to 1.06 μm. The planar guides have been operated both in confined-mode and leaky-mode regimes. Measurements of the propagation constant also yield values for the refractive index of the mixed crystal Zn1−xCdxSe for a representative composition.
