An experimental model, using rabbits, for acute quinine toxicity is presented. Electroretinogram changes are shown to occur within minutes of the ingestion of 0.5 gm/kg. They consist of increase in a-wave negativity and b-wave depression, which return to normal within 24 hours. These changes should not be due to any action on the ganglion cell and call for a revision of current thinking on quinine toxicity.
