Abstract

The influence of disturbance in evaluating the results of in situ vane shear tests in clays is examined in the paper. The influence of other factors, such as non-homogeneity of the soil mass and the mode of failure induced by the vane apparatus, are also examined and recommendations are made concerning testing methods and interpretation in order to take such factors into account.
