Symptom Differences and Pretreatment Asymptomatic Interval Affect Outcomes of Stenting for Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease

Abstract

More favorable outcomes may occur after stent placement for lesions causing hypoperfusion symptoms and when delaying stent placement 7-14 days after most recent symptoms for lesions suspected to cause embolic disease or perforator ischemia. Angioplasty performed in addition to self-expanding stent deployment may lead to worse outcomes, as may use of self-expanding stents rather than balloon-mounted stents.
