Abstract Dislocation densities were measured as a function of plastic strain in recrystallized molybdenum tested at strain rates of 2 × 10−5 and approximately 2 × 103 sec−1. Only a small difference in total dislocation density was observed for the two rates, indicating that an increase in strain rate by 108 was accommodated mainly by an increase in the average dislocation velocity rather than in the number of mobile dislocations.
