A system has been developed which allows one to approximate mean blood flow measurements during routine arteriography, where catheter placement is monitored by the televised output of an image intensified fluoroscope. The basic features of the system developed are: (1) The technique makes use of data already available from routine angiography. (2) There is no increase in morbidity over that associated with routine arteriography. (3) The flow measurements are independent of the site of injection of the contrast material and independent of the concentration as well. (4) The measuring technique is valid in almost any vessel that can be resolved and/or magnified by an image intensified medical fluoroscope. (5) The measurements can be obtained on-line and do not require the use of complex computing facilities.
