Abstract Polyureas and polythioureas were readily synthesized by the reaction of aromatic and aliphatic amines with urea and thioureas, respectively, in good to excellent yields under microwave irradiation. The effects of the microwave irradiation time and power, the nature of the solvent, and the solid content of the monomers on the inherent viscosity of the polymers were investigated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
