THE purpose of this communication is to describe 3 cases of acute pericarditis as toxic manifestations of drug therapy.6-Amino-9-D-psicofuranosylpurine,§ an antibiotic originally described by Eble and his associates,1 is produced by a strain of actinomycete tentatively identified as Streptomyces hygroscopicus, var. decoyicus. It was found to be active2 , 3 against Staphy- lococcus aureus, Streptococcus haemolyticus and some strains of Escherichia coli in mice. It was almost inactive when tested in vitro. In addition to these properties the drug was found to have antitumor activity4 in several types of animal tumors, including Walker adenocarcinomas, Jensen sarcomas, Murphy—Sturm lymphosarcomas and Guerin tumors . . .
