Abstract

Benzyladenine, applied as a lanolin paste to buds under apical suppression, stimulates DNA synthesis and activates axillary bud growth in tobacco. Chloromycetin and 6-azauracil inhibit visual bud growth and development but do not interfere with the benzyladenine (BA)-initiated DNA synthesis. The inhibitors effectively uncouple DNA synthesis from subsequent growth and elongation.
