JAYAPRAKASH Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack 753006, India A new cyst nematode belonging to 'Schachtii' group has been isolated from upland rice fields in Kerala State (India) during 1976. It differs from the closely related Heterodera oryzae Luc & Brizuela, 1961 by the smaller size of cyst, length and width of fenestrae, short stylet length in female, male and second stage juvenile, shorter spicule length and the hyaline length of the juvenile tail. The stylet knob
