Stored red blood cell supernatant facilitates thrombin generation

Abstract

Some stored RBCs release RCMVs, which express PS and are capable of facilitating thrombin generation in vitro. This provides a possible mechanism by which stored RBCs could promote adverse thrombotic or inflammatory effects.
