Abstract

PREVIOUS studies on alcoholism in Eastern Europe1 , 2 and the United States3 prompted a personal investigation of the use and nonuse of alcohol and alcoholism in a number of countries of the Far and Middle East in the hope that ideas for preventive approaches to alcoholism might result from such a study.JapanA country with a long history of isolation from the rest of the world, Japan before World War II sought simplicity, beauty and peace in quiet and complete control of feelings.
