Abstract Calcium Carbonate Solonchaks occur in close association with Chernozems and Humic‐Gley soils. Profiles have A 1 ‐C ca ‐C horizon sequence and form in calcareous parent materials. Evidence is presented to show that the prominent C ca horizon results form the precipitation of lime out of capillary water rising or moving laterally from a zone of water saturation.
