The concentration of ionic species in the solution in contact with hydrating dicalcium silicate (C 2 S) has been studied as a function of time and in the presence of admixtures. The ionic product for calcium hydroxide increases quite slowly and saturation levels are not greatly exceeded at any time. Small quantities of C 3 S control the ionic concentrations and cause considerable super‐saturation with respect to calcium hydroxide. The implications of the present data with respect to C 2 S hydration are discussed.
