Abstract The dye‐sensitized photooxygenation leads in the case of (−)‐caryophyllene ( 1 ) to 4 allylhydroperoxides, and with (−)‐iso‐caryophyllene ( 2 ) additionally to 2 tertiary compounds of this kind. The stereochemistry of the isolated 6 caryophylladienols derivatives 6 – 11 is elucidated. By that way an interpretation of the reaction mechanism is possible.
