A combination regimen of 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU), vincristine, methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was administered to 43 adults with advanced solid tumors, after establishing a tolerable dose. Thirty patients had an adequate trial for antitumor effect. This regimen was generally well tolerated and could be routinely administered on an outpatient basis. There were seven good responses and six fair responses in a variety of solid tumors. The best responses occurred in patients with pulmonary metastases from squamous carcinoma of the cervix (four of five responded) and in anaplastic thyroid cancer (one of one responded).
