The crystal structure of zinc p-toluene sulphonate hexahydrate, (CH3.C6H4.SO3)eZn.6HeO, has been determined by two-dimensional Fourier methods. The sulphur atom is surrounded by a tetrahedral arrangement of atoms comprising the three oxygen atoms of the sulphonate group and a carbon atom in the benzene ring. Each oxygen atom of the sulphonate group is linked to two water molecules by hydrogen bonds. The zinc atom is surrounded by regular octahedra of oxygen atoms in the water molecules.
