The solvent drop mechanochemical preparation of several known and novel anion binding podand receptors based on pyridinium salts is reported. Mechanochemistry is considerably faster than the typical solution based technique whilst still providing comparable yields in most cases. Mechanochemistry can be used at all stages of the synthesis including urea formation, formation of the pyridinium salt and counter ion metathesis.
