The effect of sample size on goodness of fit indices that are widely used in structural equation models is discussed and empirically illustrated. Many of the indices discussed in the. article are reported in such applications as LISREL and EQS. GR, AGR, Normed fit index (NFI), Non-normed fit index (NNFI), Incremental fit index (LFI) and Comparative Fit Index (CFI) are examined for iwo types of sample size effects. The means of the sampling distributions of GR, IR and CR were relatively stable across different sample sizes and these three indices were not as downward biased as NFI and NNFI.
