The title compound, [Pd(C26H20N2)(C4H2O3)], displays trigonal coordination of palladium by both nitrogen atoms and the double bond of maleic anhydride. The spatial arrangement of N-aryl groups in the title compound, compared to a sterically more congested analogue, explains satisfactorily its enhanced reactivity towards organic substrates. The crystal packing involves weak C—H⋯O and C—H⋯π interactions.
