40.2: RGB Color Control System for LED Backlights in IPS‐LCD TVs

Abstract

Abstract 32‐inch AS‐IPS LCDs TV with RGB‐LED backlight system was developed, which modulates each primary backlight's brightness and converts each primary image data in every frame. Red, green, and blue backlight brightness are modulated respectively depending on inputted image data. The image data are converted according to modulated backlight brightness. As a result, not only the dynamic contrast ratio but also the color gamut of low gray levels is significantly improved.
