Abstract The products resulting from the reactions of 1‐benzenesulfonyl‐2‐lithioindole and 2‐lithio‐1‐methylindole with different pyridine substrates (pyridine, 1‐methoxy‐pyridinium salt and 2‐bromopyridine) have been studied. The use of lithiocyclohexylisopyropylamide as a lithiating agent of indoles has been investigated. The preparation of four of the possible benzenesulfonyl derivatives of 2‐(2′ ‐pyridyl)indole is described.
