A new compact planar monopole antenna which covers an ultra wide bandwidth of ∼147% from 2.96 to 19.43 GHz for S11 ≤ −10 dB is presented. The proposed antenna has simple configuration and easily fed by using a 50 Ω microstrip line. The total size of the antenna is 30 × 26 × 1.6 mm3. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
