Comparison between pimonidazole binding, oxygen electrode measurements, and expression of endogenous hypoxia markers in cancer of the uterine cervix

Abstract

Endogenous hypoxia marker binding shows reasonable agreement, in extent and location, with binding of pimonidazole. CAIX staining pattern is a better match to the pimonidazole staining pattern than is HIF-1alpha, and high CAIX expression in the absence (or low levels) of HIF-1alpha may indicate a different biology.
