Spontaneous generation of plasmons by ballistic electrons

Abstract

A beam of ballistic electrons moving with a velocity of about twice the Fermi velocity (\ensuremath{\sim}${10}^{7}$ cm/s) with respect to a stationary electron gas is shown to lead to a spontaneous generation of plasmons.
